| Clean (Pond Algae - Water Treatment) Maintaining a healthy biological balance in a self-contained pond used to be difficult and time consuming. We have focused our engineering department on creating products that are easy to use and produce optimal results. After you choose the right pump for your pond, select a filter and clarifying system. Your mechanical system can also be reinforced with a variety of safe, non-toxic water treatments that balance the eco-system and protect your plants and fish. A mechanical filter removes large and small debris from your pond and protects your pump from becoming clogged. Filters can be placed under the water, outside of the water, or float on top. We offer filter systems that use ultra violet (UV) technology, biological and mechanical filtration systems, and natural non-mechanical filtration systems. These systems can be used alone or in combination. Let’s take a closer look at the different approaches available to clean your pond or water feature. Ultra Violet (UV) Filters and Clarifiers Ultra violet light sterilizes pond water by killing micro-organisms and bacteria. This reduces the growth of those living organisms that can produce odors and cloud the water if left unchecked. You can benefit from UV technology. It is available as a separate system, such as the UV Pond Clarifier or purchase a system that incorporates UV light such as the Floating UV filter with Fountain or the Pressurized Biological Filter with UV Clarifier. Biological Filters Biological filters move pond water through a series of filters that remove both large and small debris and then add positive bacteria back into the water. This is a natural approach that removes fish waste and decomposing organic material that, of left unchecked, can lead to uncontrolled algae growth. Mechanical Filtration Systems Mechanical filters are older systems that remove debris from the water and protect the pump leading to a longer pump life and better performance. These filters also promote positive bacterial growth and improves water quality. Non-mechanical Filtration Systems Barley straw naturally retards algae growth and draws debris together where it will drop to the bottom of the pond. Our blue plastic barley balls are filled with barley straw and simply float on the water. This natural environmentally friendly approach is non-mechanical. You can also benefit from the power of barley straw by adding Liquid Barley directly to the water. Water Treatments You can also clean and fortify your pond water with a variety of water treatments. We recommend adding Chlorine Remover to your pond the first time you fill it and then each time you add fish or refill the water. Other treatments like water clarifier, lime scale remover, and sludge remover are used to maintain a healthy eco-system and protect pumps and equipment. Algaecide is a treatment used if algae growth takes hold and needs to be controlled. Always read the labels before use and only use the recommended amount of any water treatment. Tools for Pond Maintenance The right tools make pond maintenance easy and enjoyable. We offer a variety of helpful tools and products designed especially for ponds and fountains. After your pond is in place and running smoothly it’s time to decorate. The next section will explore a variety of ways to decorate your pond. |
